When considering the principles of creation in Islam, it appears that our world consists of three distinct layers or dimensions of beings created by God (Allah).
The first layer is the human realm, created from clay. Although the Quran states in Surah Ar-Rahman (55:14) that God created humanity from dry clay like pottery, in our physical reality, we experience ourselves as flesh and blood.
The second layer belongs to the Jinn, beings created from a smokeless flame. As noted in the Quran (55:15 and 15:27), they were formed from the intense heat of a smokeless fire. They exist alongside us on this same earth but within a dimension invisible to human eyes. Like humans, they have distinct personalities and societies—there are good and bad individuals, scholars, warriors, weddings, and funerals. Because they existed long before Prophet Adam’s arrival on Earth, their intellect, technology, and understanding of reality may be far superior to ours. While a veil generally separates humans and Jinn, some are said to perceive across this boundary, and certain traditions even speak of interactions or intermarriage between the two worlds.
The third layer—or rather, a distinct group separated from mainstream humanity—consists of Yajuj and Majuj (Gog and Magog), two aggressive branches of Adam's lineage. Due to their violent and destructive nature, they were walled off behind a massive barrier of iron and molten copper built by King Dhul-Qarnayn, as recounted in Surah Al-Kahf (18:94–98). However, as revealed in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:96), when the end of times draws near, this barrier will be broken. They will swarm down from every high elevation to bring war and destruction upon humanity.
