SHAMIE Bakery & Confectionery

 SHAMIE Bakery & Confectionery

There is something important to clarify here, as it is a common point of confusion between SHAMIE and SHAMI: "Shami" refers to Shami Kebab, which is made by grinding meat with split peas and frying it.

It was also sold at the Shamie Bakery, but it is not called Shami Kebab because the bakery made it.

Secondly, Shamie is a person's name. Before World War II, there used to be an Iranian Club next to the Sule Bengali Mosque. During the war, U Myaung Mya National School Principal Haji U Aung Ba (U Abdullah) and a person named Shamie discussed opening a bakery together once the war ended.

However, after the war ended, Shamie provided the initial bakery machinery and recipes he owned before returning to Iran.

Haji U Abdullah, later known as Shamie U Abdullah, started the business to expand operations in partnership with the family of Mr. Patel—who served as the Mayor of Rangoon in the 1930s–1940s—along with 11 other shareholders.

Haji U Abdullah personally managed the operations as the Shamie Manager, traveling to Germany to purchase and import machinery for hard candies, chocolates, and ice pops. He operated it as a modern establishment selling Shamie candies, Shamie falooda, Shamie parfaits, Shamie cookies, toasted bread, toasted cakes, and a wide variety of cakes in Myanmar until it was nationalized.
